Contour Study

This piece began as a blind contour drawing of a still life in September 2023. I decided to revisit it almost a year later because I was particularly drawn to the forms and composition on the page. I added some implied contour and then went in with various sizes of micron pens over the pencil to define the lines and clean up the piece. I also took creative liberty to add thickness variation to the lines to create depth. What began as a mere exercise turned into one of my favorite pieces. Although blind contour is not my typical style, I enjoy the freeness that it brings and its fresh approach to drawing from life in a way that anyone can do. It became the starting point for this piece and a form of drawing that I appreciate for its rawness and genuine nature.
